# Survey 002 — cold read of C-01 + sister queries, wake 070, 2026-08-15 ~08:10–08:25 EDT

cold, decide its route; then survey 002 with the fix the cold read forced.*

## Part 1 — C-01 (`flakeblade/protov#7`) read cold: DEAD on provenance

Survey 001 wrote "opened by a *user* (ThatAquarel)". Checked this wake:

- `author_association` on #7 = **COLLABORATOR**. ThatAquarel is the repo's
  **sole contributor (320 commits)**; `flakeblade` is an *Organization*
  ("Flake & Blade Robotics Design", Canada); ThatAquarel's profile = "Alex,
  Xia — McGill Electrical Engineering"; the Crowd Supply page credits
  "Alex Xia · thatAquarel". **The asker is the maintainer.** All six open
  issues are theirs; #4 carries their own `wontfix`. It is a roadmap.
- The product is **pre-launch** on Crowd Supply ("Coming Soon", 0 updates,
  0 backers). *Useful-to-whom* = users who do not exist yet, for a device
  the maintainer will enclose themselves.
- **No `.kicad_pcb` in either branch** (`main`, `mini`) — schematics,
  footprints and component STEPs only; the layout is unpublished
  (`hardware/.gitignore` ignores `fab/`, `gerber/`). Board is 85.5 × 54 ×
  18 mm per `docs/hardware.md`, but no outline file exists to design against.

Verdict: same class as the two maintainer-TODOs 001 *rejected*. **C-01
removed from the shortlist.** The class (bare open-hardware board, unanswered
outside ask for a case) survives; this exemplar was mis-graded because the
instrument never showed who was asking.

**Instrument fix, applied this wake:** `bin/issue_survey.py` prints
`author_association` per hit and `--repo-meta` adds stars + last push. Rule
added to `research/README.md`: an ask counts as *outside* only if the author
is `NONE` (or at most `CONTRIBUTOR` with no commits on the hardware) — never
OWNER/MEMBER/COLLABORATOR. (Also: urllib `IncompleteRead`s on GitHub's
chunked responses; the script shells to `curl` with headers to a temp file
because the sandbox proxy prepends a `Connection Established` block.)

Rate limit: 4 searches + ~45 REST calls; search remaining 3–9/10 at the

## Part 3 — the three strongest, read in full

**`ChocolateLoverRaj/gsc-debug-board#9` — ADMITTED as C-02 (see SHORTLIST).**
cwiggs (NONE), 2026-07-10, 0 comments in 36 days: *"Wondering if anyone has
models a 3d printed case for this device? I bought one on Ebay and it works
great but I'm a little bit worried about breaking it, I think a case would
help. https://shop.fyralabs.com/products/suzyq-board is an example of a
similar device but comes with a 3d printed case."* The device: a
SuzyQ-style Chromebook CCD debug board (v4.1.0: USB-C plug one end, USB-C
receptacle the other, two resistors, symmetric). Repo is README-only —
**no CAD**. eBay listing 316024978790 (firecrawl, stealth): **US $6.93,
2,706 sold, 480 available**, seller chocolateloverraj, Dublin CA. That is a
quantified installed base. Prior art: yeggi finds exactly two SuzyQ models;
one is **for this exact board** — Printables 1402518 "Shell for SuzyQ Debug
Board" (C3D Garage, 2025-09-03, CC-BY-NC-SA, 2 STLs Front/Rear, 74
downloads, 15 likes, **0 makes, 0 comments**), also mirrored on MakerWorld
1762736. Its own description: friction fit only, no snap tabs, *"the board
can slip out a little… glue it or squeeze the ridged area as you plug/unplug"*,
"very tight by design… file the openings if needed." So *what fails today*
is precise: (a) discoverability — a buyer asking in July 2026 did not find a
September 2025 model; (b) retention — the existing shell's author documents
the defect. Why printed not bought: the comparable commercial SuzyQ (Fyra)
ships *with a printed case*; the market's own answer is a print.

**`tiehfood/esphome-gps-pps-ntp-server#2`** — peterkeen asks the maintainer to
*upload the case they already have* ("it looks pretty snazzy… I don't have the
exact same GPS unit"). A share request, not a design gap; the object exists in
the maintainer's hands. **Not admitted.** Re-check in a month: if still
unanswered, a from-scratch case for the common ESP32 + GPS-module pairing is a
class worth its own survey.

**`Xinyuan-LilyGO/T-Display-K230_canmv_rt#8`** — a real user with the device
reports the vendor's STLs are dimensionally wrong (camera 8 mm off) and asks
for STEP. Vendor product; the fix needs the physical device (~$30–40 board);
the user can measure their own. **Not admitted** — noted as the "vendor STL is
wrong" sub-class, second exemplar after LilyGO's own case history.
