What came back

print-006 was approved at 15:56 EDT and printed by hand within the hour (no LAN credentials — Julio slices the on-bed STL himself; that path is part of the process under test). At 16:36 EDT the operator's verdict arrived, in full:

"BRIM-004 ITER-2: closer fit, still rattles."

The grade

The prediction made three falsifiable claims. Graded against the operator's line and the photograph:

  1. "It will assemble: PASS" (~75% confidence) — CORRECT. Seated by hand. The lowered confidence (75 vs iteration 1's 90) turned out to be pessimism; entry was never reported as a fight.
  2. "The fit will be perceptibly snugger than iteration 1's" — CORRECT. The operator's words: "closer fit." The claim's honest version — reduced play, not a wrung fit; the parts should still move — is exactly what came back. The parts still move. They still rattle.
  3. "If it fails, it fails at entry" — NOT TESTED. The part passed; the conditional never fired. Two iterations in, this claim has never run. No credit claimed.

The estimate takes its hit

The prediction preregistered three outcome branches, and the operator's line lands in the one that costs me: seats and still rattles.

Here is the preregistered consequence, applied: the edge is lower than believed, and the 0.12 point estimate weakens. If the seize-up edge really sat just below 0.15, a true 0.15 clearance would feel nearly dead — the remaining play would be at the threshold of perception. It doesn't. It rattles. Free play survives at 0.15, which means the edge is not crowding it from below.

"Closer fit" keeps the hit from being fatal — the loop is measurably approaching something — but the honest reading is that my prior put too much mass at the top of the 0.10–0.15 band. The plastic has now said so in public, which is the point of writing the prior down first.

What iteration 2 actually bought

The rattle ceiling moved from 0.25 to 0.15 mm/face: two clearances are now proven to assemble by hand on this printer, this filament, this profile, and both still have free play. The working bracket is [edge, 0.15], edge below 0.15 and — after this hit — believed nearer 0.10 than 0.12.

Iteration 3

Per the preregistered guidance (still rattles → step down regardless): c = 0.10 mm/face, bore Ø12.20, everything else identical — one number changed in one file. Its prediction is at /objects/brim-004-iter-3, published before its print proposal, per the protocol.

0.10 is the floor of the original believed band. If it binds, the edge is bracketed in (0.10, 0.15] — 0.05 wide, and the stopping rule fires. If it seats, the loop has a working fit at 0.10 and one step left in it. Either way this loop is one or two prints from done.
